Erielle Bernardo is an animal care associate for Mini Cat Town, an adoption centre in Palo Alto , California.
Her day started out as any other, until a woman walked in with her dog. She couldn't speak English, but it quickly became apparent she needed help.
Six pairs of eyes staring back
Using an online translator, the woman managed to explain to Erielle that she had discovered a pet carrier abandoned in a parking lot. She stopped to look inside, and found six pairs of eyes staring back at her.
Six adorable black kittens had been cruelly abandoned.
Unsure what to do, she decided to bring the carrier to Mini Cat Town, where Erielle was on hand to offer her support.
An emergency foster
Erielle had never fostered a cat before, but something about this litter tugged at her heartstrings.
"They were obviously scared. They were huddled together, all at the back of the carrier", she told The Dodo.
The cat lover brought the kittens home with her, naming them after DJs. Thankfully, with lots of love and care, Toki, Kaskade, Zedd, Kaytra, Softie and Partyboy are thriving.
"It's so rewarding and so fun to be with them", she explained.
When they're ready, the kittens will move on to loving families of their own.
