A Hungarian Viszla named Agatha has become quite the local celebrity, after she and 23 pub-goers spent five days snowed-in at "Britain's highest pub".

Tan Hill Inn is thought to be the highest pub in Britain, located in the Yorkshire Dales.

Visitors to the pub often experience snowfall during the winter months, but nothing could have prepared them for a five day snow-in that left 23 people stranded.

It was a surreal experience for staff and guests alike.

Londonders Nathan Walker and Frederick Swan had to be dug out of the pod they were sleeping in. One staff member missed the birth of a grandchild, and another couple missed their flight back to Sydney.

Thankfully, everyone remained in excellent spirits.

On day three, Hungarian Viszla Agatha celebrated her birthday, complete with a big bowl of sausages and lots of pats on the head from residents of the pub.

"Adopted" by the Tan Hill Inn

On the 8th of January, snowploughs and gritters managed to escort most guests to safety.

Agatha and her owner Kip, who had been staying in a camper van, decided not to risk the journey.

"This is Agatha, a dog who has been adopted by us while we are waiting to be reconnected with the outside world", explained the Tan Hill Inn on Facebook.

Eventually, on the 10th of January, Agatha, her owner, and all the snowed-in staff were able to leave. They resumed their journeys, taking with them memories to last a lifetime.
