Cat lovers Bruce and Sue regularly care for stray and feral cats in Pukalani, Hawaii.
Then, in September, they came across a heartbreaking scene they never expected.
A feral cat had got her head stuck in concrete, and she was becoming more distressed with every passing minute.
An urgent rescue
Thankfully, Humane Enforcement officer Kaitlyn Mason immediately responded to their call for help.
Kaitlyn, Bruce and Sue all tried to free the terrified cat, but with very little space between her head and the concrete, they feared the worst if something went wrong.
Desperately trying not to damage the little cat's neck, Kaitlyn decided to chisel away the concrete, slowly breaking out enough of a gap to pull her out safely.
In safe hands
The cat was taken to the Humane Society for a check-up, where she was found to have no injuries. She was spayed, and returned to Bruce and Sue's house the very next day.
Once there, they decided to name her Kaity in honour of the quick-thinking rescuer who helped save her.
"We are happy to share that Kaity is doing well", shared Maui Humane Society to Facebook. "She's living her best life with her other cat friends. A huge mahalo to Officer Mason, Bruce and Sue for their compassion and dedication to Maui's community cats!".
