Intrigued by the lone animal, the officer attempted to guide it into his car, but the dog steadfastly refused to leave its position.
It soon became apparent that this was no ordinary lost pet; the dog appeared to be signalling for help.
Investigating the scene
The officer decided to investigate the surrounding area in search of the dog's owner but found no one nearby. When he returned, the dog was still firmly rooted to the same spot. Realising the animal might be trying to lead him somewhere, the officer decided to follow it.
The dog guided him to a cabin hidden in the woods. Upon inspecting the area, the officer discovered an elderly man lying on the ground, calling for help just a few metres from the cabin. The 84-year-old man had suffered a serious fall and was unable to get up.
Without his dog's determined efforts, he might never have been found.
A remarkable rescue
Fortunately, thanks to his loyal dog, Gita, the man had only been on the ground for about three hours and was expected to recover fully. Thirteen-year-old Gita, who had been adopted from a shelter years earlier, demonstrated unwavering devotion by staying at the roadside and signalling for help.
This act of loyalty and quick thinking undoubtedly saved the man's life.
Well done, Gita!
