Sharon Bertozzi has always been passionate about helping animals in need. So when she found an emaciated street dog sleeping in her garden, she alerted City of Folsom Animal Services.
The poor pup had terrible mange, and was so weak, she could barely walk.
Not a dog
"At first this was thought to be a very old, sick dog", explained shelter manager Sallysue Stein on Facebook. "Upon taking a better look, it is really a young coyote with a really bad case of mange".
The coyote was muzzled for safety and brought in for urgent veterinary care.
A wonderful rescue mission
Princess, as she was later named, was taken on by Gold Country Wildlife Rescue, who has collaborated with animal services in the past.
They are a non-profit organisation, who specialise in rehabilitating and releasing injured and orphaned wildlife.
Thanks to a wonderful collaboration between all involved, Princess was nursed back to health, in preparation for a release back into the wild.
"So glad she was found and able to get help", wrote a viewer. "All animals deserve to be healthy and happy, even wild ones".
