Escalators can be quite intimidating to dogs. All that metal, those stairs, that strange movement? It’s strange for humans, so imagine how perplexing it must be for pups.
That’s why it’s not uncommon to witness nervous dogs digging in their paws and refusing to board.
Caught in the act
This adorable footage shows a frightened Golden Retriever doing just that.
The hilarious video shows the owner and dog walking through a busy shopping centre towards the escalator.
When the dog realises where he’s expected to go, he looks more than a little uncertain. He freezes and refuses to walk another step.
Thankfully, this quick-thinking owner has just the thing.

The first step was to gently encourage the pup to board the escalator, but the dog was adamant, “I am not going on that!”
Sensing the pup’s nerves and, with no other option, the dog’s owner turns into Superman and lifts the big pup onto his shoulder.
The Golden Retriever seems unaware of his rather large size and sits happily on his owner’s shoulder to travel up.
