After two hours of trying to free her, Holly’s anxious owners turned to veterinarian Tomas Pinto Basto.
Initially unable to assist as he was in surgery, Dr Pinto Basto advised calling other services, including the fire department.
Rescue mission
Upon completing his operation, he checked back on the situation, only to find Holly still trapped and exhausted from her struggle. He immediately headed to the scene with his nurse, joining the firefighters already there.
The team attempted various manoeuvres to free the Labrador’s head, but her adrenaline and stress levels made gentle handling ineffective.
Finally free!
With cutting the bench’s metal bars deemed too risky, the veterinarian opted for anaesthesia as the safest course. Once Holly was calm and sedated, Dr Pinto Basto freed her.
Holly has since recovered well and even returned to the clinic with chocolates and a thank-you card for the veterinary team.
