Vera, a young Beagle, went out to play in the garden as she had many times before. But this time, she returned indoors looking very unwell.

Within 20 minutes, the Beagle began showing alarming symptoms, including drooling, vomiting, and diarrhoea.

Her owners quickly realised something was wrong and acted fast.

Mushroom poisoning

They rushed Vera to a vet and to their surprise, the vet diagnosed Vera with mushroom poisoning. The early autumn rains had led to the rapid growth of a small, white mushroom in their garden, which Vera had scoffed while outside.

Her owners, unaware the mushroom had appeared in the garden, initially didn’t think much of it due to its tiny size and innocent appearance.

Fortunately, quick medical intervention and treatment ensured that Vera suffered no long-term effects; blood tests confirmed her liver and kidneys were unharmed.

Vera’s owners warn other pet owners to stay vigilant, especially during mushroom season, as even the smallest fungi can pose serious risks to pets.
