Paul O'Grady was renowned for his drag persona Lily Savage, and for heart-warmingly presenting "For The Love of Dogs" on television.
He bought the Kent property in 1999, and lived there until his death in March last year. His husband, Andre Portasio, is now selling their home.
Located near Aldington, Kent, the estate includes the grand Knoll Hill House, surrounded by 20 acres of land, and a collection of unique outbuildings.
The legacy of Knoll Hill House
O'Grady’s move from London to the Kent countryside was inspired by his partner Brendan Murphy, who discovered the property. The Edwardian house, built in 1910, boasts five bedrooms, large bay windows, and breathtaking views across the Romney Marsh. Its spacious grounds include formal gardens, native woodlands, and a wildflower meadow that O'Grady meticulously cultivated over two decades.
Today, the property remains a "wildlife haven," attracting birds and insects, while the land is also home to O’Grady’s rescued animals, including sheep, pigs, and barn owls.
Features and appeal
Knoll Hill House spans 3,576 square feet, with multiple living spaces, a swimming pool, stables, and charming outbuildings such as the "Witches House" and “Woodland Hut.” The estate offers the seclusion of countryside living but is still well-connected to London, making it appealing to families, retirees, and commuters alike.
As Portasio reflects, “There’s a wonderful sense of peace here,” making the estate as special to future owners as it was to O'Grady.
