In December 2024, animal welfare officers exposed Silvia S.'s cruel double life at her dog boarding facility in Bennstedt, Germany.
They discovered 128 animals living in horrific conditions, with two already dead.
'Half a metre deep in filth’
Animal welfare officers from three states, along with the veterinary office and fire brigade, launched a rescue mission. They were shocked to find themselves standing half a metre deep in excrement. After hours of work, 128 dogs were freed from their nightmare.
Many of the dogs were emaciated, dehydrated, and traumatised, living amid piles of rubbish, filth, and dead animals. Tragically, a puppy and an adult dog could not be saved.
Courtroom confession
Silvia S. had already been banned from keeping animals in February 2024, but she appealed. In court, her lawyer announced she accepted the penalty order, though his real aim was to lift the ban, allowing her to continue working with dogs.
The prosecution is preparing fresh charges. A fine and animal ownership ban were imposed for cruelty, and whether Silvia S. will appeal remains to be seen.
For the 128 rescued dogs, a better life awaits, free from neglect and suffering.
