Animal Rescue Cumbria works tirelessly year-round to help animals in need.
Open since 1972, they’ve seen all kinds of cases come through their doors. But sadly, some stories still have the power to leave the team speechless.
A shocking discovery
“To the person who left us this parcel, we want you to know that we simply had no space for your two cats”, they explained, sharing a picture of a taped-up box to Facebook.
“Our staff have gone above and beyond, taking animals home to make room”, they continued.
Shockingly, whoever decided to abandon the cats, had taped the box shut. With no air holes or means of escape, the female cats were at risk of unthinkable harm.
A fresh start
The rescue went on to explain that they have an emergency intake policy in place to ensure the welfare of all animals brought to them, no matter the circumstances.
“We don’t judge people, we understand there are a lot of desperate people out there who have no other option for their pets” explained Marion Yates who manages the rescue.
“If you can’t keep them, at least have the decency to hand them over properly no matter how upset or embarrassed you are. It’s the least they deserve!”, agreed one viewer.
Thankfully Agatha and Wanda, as they’ve now been named, are set to make a full recovery from their traumatic ordeal.
Once they’ve been fully assessed and spayed, they’ll be ready to find their forever homes.
