Comedian John Oliver had a candid and fiery reaction after being cut off during an emotional acceptance speech at the 2024 Emmys.

The Last Week Tonight host was giving a heartfelt tribute to his recently deceased dog when the ceremony’s playoff music began to play, cutting him short. Known for his sharp wit, Oliver was visibly frustrated but didn’t miss a beat.

"Perfect choice of music," he remarked sarcastically before yelling, "F**k you," which sent the audience into fits of laughter.

A tribute to his dog and Emmy-winning show

Oliver had just picked up the Outstanding Scripted Variety Series award and wanted to share a personal moment about his beloved pet. “We had the most fantastic dog,” he began, explaining how the dog had been by his side during major life events, including his wedding and the pandemic.

As the music interrupted, Oliver powered through, even joking, “I feel like Sarah McLachlan right now.” Eventually, the Emmys paused the music, allowing him to finish his speech, which he dedicated to all dogs, urging: "This is for all dogs. You're all very good girls. You're all very good boys. You all deserve a treat."

Social media’s reaction to Oliver’s speech

Fans quickly took to social media to praise Oliver for the heartfelt yet humorous moment. Viewers commented on how iconic it was that he both dedicated his award to his late dog and successfully silenced the Emmys' playoff music.

"That's what a GENUINE acceptance speech should sound like - BRAVO John, keep up the great work!", said one viewer.

"The music guy probably felt like a toad. I love John. Thank you for saying that. All dogs deserve to be thanked on stage.", wrote another.
