Arya, a lively Australian Cattle dog, recently found herself in a hilarious case of mistaken identity with a confused Poodle.

During a fun-filled day with her owner and friends, Arya, the Australian Cattle dog, encountered a Poodle that she appeared to confuse for a sheep.

As she's more of a family pet and companion dog than a herding dog, Arya rarely exhibits her sheepdog instincts. However, this unusual meeting sparked a strong reaction.

Poodle herder

Fortunately, the poodle was calm and unfazed by the other dog's behaviour. It simply watched as Arya circled and attempted to "herd" it, seemingly convinced she was dealing with livestock.

When she realised what Arya was doing, her owner couldn't help but laugh. She shared the moment online, which quickly attracted nearly a million views.

Trigger herding instincts

Pet professionals and dog owners alike have chimed in, many sharing stories of similar encounters between sheepdogs and Poodle-like breeds.

It appears that Poodles, with their fluffy appearance, can sometimes trigger the herding instincts in dogs like Arya.

Just be warned, if you own a Poodle, don't be surprised if you catch a sheepdog eyeing your pet a little too closely!
