For the 21-year-old dog owner, the answer was simple. There was no way she was re-homing her puppy, even if her boyfriend did claim to have allergies.
"Repeated arguments"
Sharing her story to Reddit forum Am I The A***hole, she explained that she had adopted the puppy because she lives alone.
Her boyfriend had always disliked the dog, claiming he was "annoying and does not behave". Yet despite this, in the three months with her, the puppy was "already potty trained for the most part", and "very friendly to people and dogs".
This revelation had fellow users questioning whether perhaps allergies were being used as an excuse to get her to return the puppy.
A difficult decision
The devoted owner agreed this may have been the case, particularly since she had once agreed she would re-home him had her boyfriend been allergic.
He showed no sign of allergy at the time, but the very next day he wrote to tell her of a painful rash on his neck.
"I don't know if I believe him", she explained. "Especially since he hasn't been here in 2 days".
Other users shared their support.
"Keep the puppy. Dump the boyfriend", wrote one.
"It sounds like your boyfriend is manipulating you because he doesn't like the dog", agreed another.
Thankfully, it seems the puppy will be staying right where he is. And as for the boyfriend? That remains to be seen.
