Some rescue stories are more memorable than others. And in this particular case, nobody was prepared for what they would find when they cautiously investigated crying sounds coming from a hen house.
Peering inside, there was a mother cat and her kitten, in desperate need of help.
Cats among chickens
The gentle pair had no interest in the chickens themselves. But clever mother cat Willow had worked hard to find a safe place to hide her baby. Then, hungry, thirsty and frightened, she had started calling out to the humans she heard nearby.
Willow and Wookie were taken in by L'Ecole du Chat Libre de Berre l’Etang, after many appeals to rescue organisations went unanswered.
A fresh start
Now in safe hands, Willow and her kitten Wookie have started to recover from their ordeal. Willow is undergoing some tests, as she has been toiletting outside her litterbox. This may be something that requires medical treatment, or it may be due to stress.
Once she is declared healthy, the team will start looking for her perfect home, where she can spend the rest of her days alongside her beloved baby Wookie.
