A couple from North Carolina in the US were thrilled to adopt Ivory, a cat from Bertie County Humane Society, but they soon discovered a problem.

When they adopted Ivory, they left his sibling, Cirrus, behind.

Ivory and Cirrus, along with five other cats, had been rescued from a home where they were ill and later nursed back to health by the shelter.

Couldn't stop thinking about Cirrus

After losing their previous cat, Dexter, Jean McGinnis and Chris Gartland visited the shelter in February, planning to adopt just one cat. However, they soon found themselves struggling to choose between Ivory and Cirrus.

They ultimately brought Ivory home, but couldn't stop thinking about Cirrus. They knew what they had to do.

Just days after they adopted Ivory, they contacted the shelter.

No, they weren't going to take Ivory back and swap him with Cirrus; they were going to adopt both cats.

Happy ending for both cats

Penny, a shelter worker, was happy to help, and Cirrus was soon welcomed into his new home. The two cats have now settled in, with Cirrus initially needing some time to adjust. Ivory has been a comfort to Cirrus, and the two are thriving together.

McGinnis has since shared her joy in adopting both cats, now renamed Gnocchi and Levi. The couple hopes their story inspires others to consider adoption.
