Walkers to Loreley Rock couldn't believe their eyes when they found a tiny European Wildcat, in desperate need of help.
Despite their excitement at the unusual discovery, the knew exactly what to do, calling for specialist support immediately.
An urgent rescue
Help couldn't come quickly enough for the little Wildcat, who was severely emaciated and disoriented.
Her rescuers feared it may be too late to save her life, but thankfully, the brave kitten was determined to survive.
Special care
Sharing her story to their Facebook page, Wildtierhilfe an der Loreley-Hunruck e.V. were able to report that only two days post-rescue, she was already doing much better.
"Now we urgently need financial support to be able to continue caring for her", they continued. "Every euro counts".
Viewers from all over Germany shared their support, with many sending in donations to help the Wildcat.
Captured sitting on a rescuer's lap, the little kitten looked quite at ease in the presence of humans. "Is it normal she is so tame, or is that because of her condition", asked one viewer.
"In a week, she won't be doing that any more", explained the rescue.
The hope is that once she's back to full strength, her instincts, personality and energy will begin to shine through.
