The Islington North MP revealed the feline passed away on Sunday, describing the loss as "great sadness."
Corbyn, who had often featured El Gato on Christmas cards and discussed his plans to bring him to Number 10 if he won the 2019 general election, expressed deep sorrow at the death of his pet.
Beloved feline friend
El Gato's name, which translates to "the cat" in Spanish, became a well-known part of the former Labour leader's life.
In his post on X Corbyn wrote: "He gave joy to many throughout his life. He was happy, gentle and full of personality. Life will not be the same without El Gato’s company and friendship. We will miss him dearly."
Heartfelt tribute
The cat's companionship was deeply cherished by Corbyn, who had even jokingly considered the challenges of relocating the territorial feline to Number 10, should he have taken office.
The heartfelt tribute has prompted an outpouring of sympathy from fans and followers, many sharing their own fond memories of Corbyn’s cherished companion.
RIP El Gato.
