With so many dogs in shelters, it can take years for some unlucky pups to find their forever homes. In the case of Ginger, the wait took 7 long years.

Labrador mix Ginger was first brought in to the Dogwood Animal Shelter as a young dog.

She was confused and disoriented, and she just couldn't understand why she had been left behind.

The longest wait

For months, she sat patiently at the door of her kennel, desperately hoping somebody would choose her and take her home with them.

Tragically, the days became years, and Ginger's beautiful brown coat slowly became grey.

The shelter team shared Ginger's post as much as the could, but visitors always seemed to end up taking another dog home with them.

A desperate appeal

Having tried everything else they could think of, Mission Driven stepped in to help offer further visibility to Ginger's case.

"Hi, I'm Ginger", they wrote, pinning a notice to her kennel door. "I've been here waiting 7 years, 9 months, 2 weeks and 2 days. I am a good girl, I promise".

The post was shared over 14,000 times in one day, touching the hearts of dog lovers everywhere.

It may have seemed impossible at times, but Ginger's story goes to show that there's always hope. Mission Driven later updated their post to let followers know that the Lab mix had since been adopted, into the perfect home, committed to giving her the happiest final years possible.
