When Rocky was first introduced to Scoobie-Doo, the first thing that struck him was the dog's impressive size, followed closely by how thin he was.
Taking care not to frighten the bewildered boy, he gradually moved closer and introduced himself.
An appetite for life and food
The Great Dane immediately began to show an interest in treats, gently taking them from Rocky's hand. He may have been nervous and confused, but he hadn't lost his appetite for tasty treats.
His emaciated frame suggested that Scoobie hadn't had the easiest time, but what exactly was his story?
Clearly well socialised and loving towards people, it was impossible to imagine how such an impressive dog had ended up at the pound.
A complicated life
Following a call with shelter manager Alexis, Rocky was shocked to discover that this wasn't Scoobie's first time at the pound.
He was actually a repeat visitor, with a history dating back to 2022, when he was first brought in by his original family. After surrendering him once, they later decided to take him back, until a move to Mexico left him at the shelter once again.
He then found himself in another home, with children that refused to participate in his care. The mother said she would take him to the pound if they didn't start feeding him, and heartbreakingly, the poor pup found himself back in the system.
His history, compounded with some complex nutritional needs, meant that Scoobie had had a very difficult time of it.
Thankfully, his arrival and meeting with Rocky signalled new possibilities for this loving boy. He is finally receiving the vet care and diet he so desperately needs, and he even has a meet and greet arranged with potential adopters. Hopefully the Great Dane will soon be settled in his forever home.
