Earlier this year, residents in New York spotted a little black and white cat sitting outside their apartment building.
At first glance they thought he had just wandered away from home, but at a closer glance, he was clearly a stray in need.
Nobody would let him in
None of the residents were willing to let the lost cat inside, so he spent his days waiting for help in the cold.
Thankfully someone took pity on the poor boy, contacting Little Wanderers NYC to take him to safety.
To everyone's surprise, the cat walked straight into the rescuer's cage, without any sign of fear or hesitation. Tired and desperate to escape the rain, he seemed relieved to have been caught.
A solitary soul
The team already had a family waiting to offer Knock Knock, as he was later named, a home.
With lots of patience and gentle affection, new owner Ryan was able to build Knock Knock's trust, and he slowly began to come out of his shell.
These days, the once sad cat is almost unrecognisable. He's become confident and talkative, particularly when he's near his toys, explained the rescue to The Dodo.
Knock Knock tolerates other cats, but he seems to prefer his own company. Perhaps he is making up for lost time, now preferring to keep the cuddles to himself!
