Canine pals Heart and Soul had been callously abandoned by their owner on a busy highway, with no thought for their safety.
Tragedy struck
The duo were inseparable as they together fought for survival while finding solace in each other’s company.
However, tragedy struck when Soul was hit by a car, leaving Heart distraught and barking for help.
Fortunately, Donna Lochmann from Stray Rescue of St Louis happened to be passing and when she heard Heart’s distraught barks, she immediately went to help.
Despite desperate efforts to save Soul, his injuries were sadly just too serious. But he wasn’t alone. Heart stayed by his side all the time until he peacefully passed away.
Together forever
Moved by their incredible bond, staff at the animal shelter where Soul was treated, ensured the soulmates would remain together for eternity. They attached a pendant to Heart’s collar containing Soul’s ashes.
Eventually, Heart found a loving foster family where she could start to rebuild his life before eventually finding her forever home, where she struck up a close friendship with her new canine sibling, Bo.
Heart’s new family know what it’s like to experience loss after one of their beloved dogs passed away. They were thrilled to embrace Heart with open arms. Now, Heart enjoys a life filled with love and happiness, but her dear friend Soul will always remain close by.
RIP Soul.
