After 700 days in a shelter, things were looking bleak for Beluga until a new owner and the joy of a garden gave him the senior dog a new lease of life.

At ten years old, Velcro faced challenges like arthritis and trust issues due to his unknown background, making him continually overlooked by potential adopters.

Perfect match

But staff at the Austin Pets Alive Association refused to give up, determined that the right match was out there.

Finally, Jeanette, a 75-year-old lady grieving the loss of her elderly dogs, crossed paths with Velcro. Naming him Velcro because he always wanted to be with her, Jeanette saw in him the perfect canine companion. Initially fostering him, Jeanette quickly realised they were meant for each other.

As Velcro explored his new garden, he rediscovered the joys of puppyhood, bringing immense happiness to both him and Jeanette. Their bond not only rejuvenated Velcro but also brought new vitality to Jeanette's life.

Joy of adopting senior dogs

Their heartwarming story, captured in a video shared by the shelter, resonated with nearly a million viewers, highlighting the often-overlooked adoption potential of senior dogs. It showed Velcro happily bounding around the garden after Jeanette who couldn't have looked happier!

While Jeanette and Velcro are loving life together, Jeanette hopes to inspire others looking to adopt a dog to consider the special love and companionship provided by older pups.
