The alarming incident unfolded in Rebecca Daynes’ home, and she later took to the Facebook group Snake Identification Australia to share the harrowing experience.
Terrifying ordeal
Describing it as “truly terrifying,” she posted photos of her senior cat, Mabel, with the snake and revealed that both the cat and the snake miraculously survived the encounter. Given the cat’s age and existing health issues, Rebecca even went so far as to ponder whether her cat is immortal!
Mabel, weakened by age and a brain tumour, could not escape the snake’s grasp. Remarkably, over 24 hours later, the feline displayed no signs of distress. While acknowledging that they are not entirely out of the woods, Rebecca expressed hope for the cat’s recovery.
Lucky escape!
Commenters on Rebecca’s post suggested the snake may have coiled around the cat’s neck as a defence mechanism against potential bites.
Despite the risky nature of the situation, Rebecca bravely removed the snake herself, describing the adrenaline-fueled act as “probably the most stupid thing I could have done.”
The snake, injured but alive, retreated into the garden, leaving Rebecca grateful that neither she nor her cat suffered bites.
The Snake Identification Australia group advises anyone encountering a wild reptile to keep a safe distance and seek medical attention immediately if bitten.
