A video posted by CBS News has recently gone viral, after it caught the moment a small dog stood up to three unexpected intruders.
Outnumbered
Black bears are the only species found in North Carolina, USA.
On this particular occasion, it wasn't one, but three huge bears, who ventured into the garden. They were most likely in search of food, but little did they know a fearless dog would intercept them.
Brave pup
Seemingly undeterred by the size of the bears, the brown dog is seen running at them, clearly determined to see them out of his garden.
Startled by the sudden appearance of the brave pup, they immediately start looking for an exit.
This is an excellent result for the tiny guard dog, as black bears have been known to harm dogs when frightened.
Last summer, a number of people reported being charged by bears on hiking trails in Ashville, North Carolina, with one dog having to be euthanised after a bear was provoked and attacked him.
But on this occasion, Eddie had the upper-hand, and the bears dispersed as fast as their legs could carry them!
The little dog is then seen wandering back inside, looking very relaxed and satisfied with his hard day's work.
