The family initially noticed two men hastily walking away from a park bench in East London’s Barking Park. As they got closer, they saw that a carrier bag had been left behind, and the bag was moving.
Shocking discovery
Intrigued, they decided to look inside the bag, and that’s when they made a shocking discovery. Inside the bag was a black cat, accompanied by a heartbreaking note.
The note explained that the cat was called Mila, and she will turn two on February 17, 2024. It explained that Mila’s owner, facing the challenges of returning to university, could no longer care for her. The plea in the note urged whoever found Mila to “take me in and love me like my owner did.”
Mila was wearing a purple and yellow collar with a bell, but the family soon removed it because it was too tight. They then swiftly contacted the RSPCA.
If the family hadn’t spotted the carrier bag when they did, who knows what would have happened to Mila?
RSPCA investigation
Mila will remain in the care of the RSPCA until a forever home is found for her.
While the RSPCA is investigating Mila’s case, unfortunately, the cat wasn’t microchipped. It is, therefore, urging the public to assist in identifying Mila’s owner or the two men seen near the park bench. Anyone with information should contact the RSPCA’s appeals line and reference number 01200992.
The RSPCA is witnessing a concerning increase in abandonment reports, having received a staggering 20,995 reports of abandoned animals in 2023, which is attributed to the rising cost of living.
