Life at Germany's Herne-Wanne animal shelter will never be quite the same after its longest-serving canine resident dies.

After over a decade of living at the shelter, Robin became a popular fixture among staff and volunteers.

Shelter veteran

Robin spent his entire 12 years within the confines of the shelter, never experiencing the warmth of a permanent home. But while he doesn't have a family to mourn him, the news of his passing has left not only his caretakers but also the ardent supporters of the animal shelter full of grief.

The story of this handsome dog, who touched the lives of many during his decade-long stay, brings tears to all who hear it.

Despite never finding a forever home, the tireless efforts of the shelter staff ensured that Robin still knew happiness.

RIP Robin

His daily life was intertwined with caregivers, handlers and visitors (who secretly treated him to meat sausages). Not to mention his fellow canine companions with whom he shared the shelter grounds.

As Robin embarked on his journey across the Rainbow Bridge, the shelter shared a poignant, heartfelt message to their canine friend, "Many people were your world, and you were theirs," highlighting the profound impact of Robin's presence in the lives of those fortunate to cross his path.
