Pet abandonment took a dark turn this summer in the picturesque south of France when a Malinois was left stranded and alone in an empty apartment.

Sadly, it's all too common for owners to callously abandon their canine companions during the summer, a fate Horka knows all too well.

Abandoned and alone

When her family moved away, they didn't think of taking the four-year-old Malinois mix with them or making other arrangements for her. Horka was just left locked in the now-empty apartment.

Fortunately, authorities were eventually alerted to the situation and firefighters were able to break into the apartment and rescue the poor dog.

It was then the turn of The "Au petit bonheur de nos oubliés" Association to step in. Thanks to their efforts, Horka was able to get back on her paws and have the chance at a new life.

Hope for Horka

Temporarily placed in a foster home, Horka is on the path to recovery, mending her broken heart and yearning for a forever family that will cherish her.

Despite the heartbreaking betrayal of her previous owners, Horka is a friendly and affectionate dog who is very sociable with other dogs and children.  While she knows basic commands, she must refine her recall and barking control. Fortunately, she is a quick learner and eager for new training experiences thanks to her Malinois lineage.

Hopefully, Horka won't have to wait too long until a family comes forward to give her the life she deserves.
