Couple adopts Shiba Inu puppy after her adorable reaction on meeting them (video)

When faced with a choice between three puppies, this Shiba Inu puppy's smile made her stand out. So much so, it helped her find her new family.  

It's never easy to choose between littermates, but this clever little puppy made it an easy decision for her new family.  

From the moment she met them, this Shiba puppy seemed smitten with her owners, and the feeling was most definitely mutual. 

Can dogs really smile? 

While experts believed for many years that a smile was purely a muscular reflex, recent research suggests this may not be the case.

New studies indicate that dogs may actually smile to express emotion, particularly in response to our behaviour. Dogs have evolved over the years to react in accordance with people, meaning that dogs may learn to smile if it triggers a positive reaction from us humans. 

A smile that speaks a thousand words

When it came to choosing their new puppy, this couple had a tough choice on their hands. With one more adorable than the next, how would they possibly choose their new four-legged friend? 

From the moment they entered the pen, one puppy stood out from the rest. Calmly waiting for affection, it really seemed that this female puppy was smiling. Grinning during every interaction, she clearly had a feeling she had found her family. 

"She's our girl", exclaimed her new owner, with one viewer responding, "such a sweetheart".
