We join this remarkable story nine years after Pascal's beloved cat disappeared when a retired couple became acquainted with a group of stray cats.
Nougat mystery
The couple, living in Gueugnon, a quaint French town in Saône-et-Loire, had gotten to know the area's thriving population of stray cats.
But when they encountered Nougat, they immediately sensed he wasn't an ordinary stray; he was much more affectionate than the others, followed them everywhere, and even tried to get into buildings.
When they told their daughter about Nougat, she suggested they take him to the local vet to see if the cat was microchipped. Astonishingly, the cat did have a microchip, so the vet immediately phoned the number associated with it.
And who should be on the other end of the phone? Yes, you guessed it, Pascal.
Happy ending!
About 30km away in Montceau-les-Mines, Pascal initially struggled to fathom the news. Nougat had been missing for around nine years, and Pascal had lost all hope of seeing him again. He had originally adopted Nougat when the cat was a year old, and while he would always return to Pascal's apartment after venturing outside, one day, he just vanished. Given the proximity of Nougat's discovery and the extended absence, it's suspected that the cat may have been stolen and kept by an unknown person, oblivious to the microchip.
Remarkably, Nougat appears to have been well-cared for during his long absence and is now back in Pascal's loving arms, resuming a life on pause for nearly a decade.
