Alicante Firefighters have captured everyone’s hearts with their heroic rescue mission to save a paralysed dog stranded on a mountain during a family hike.

The idyllic hiking route in Serra Gelada, Benidorm, became the scene of an emergency rescue when the family’s four-legged member suddenly found himself unable to move.

Overwhelmed by severe pain in his hind legs, the golden retriever faced a crisis, immobilised and in distress.

Desperate to assist their beloved pet, the family contacted the Alicante Firefighters, who promptly arrived to help. Employing their expertise and rescue equipment, they delicately placed the dog on a stretcher and transported him safely to the family’s car. The firefighters later posted about the rescue mission on their Instagram, with a note that they hoped the dog would get better soon.

While it’s not been revealed what caused the dog’s paralysis, one Instagram user suggested that a tick bite might have triggered the dog’s sudden paralysis.

Controversial rescue

Another person praised the efforts of the firefighters, saying,

“These dogs are our world and deserve the respect and quality of life that any living being does. Thanks to the firefighters for that work”.

However, not all responses were filled with empathy. A few people questioned the rescue’s cost and necessity, wondering why taxpayer funds were used to save a dog.

But others were quick to defend the operation, emphasising that many dogs like this golden retriever are used to help humans in need. Nonetheless, amidst the criticism, a groundswell of support and gratitude emerged from those who recognised the importance of preserving life, whether it’s a human or four-legged friend and sent well-wishes for the golden retriever’s speedy recovery.
