When teenagers stumbled upon shoeboxes on the street, they hoped they'd stumbled upon a stash of designer footwear, but they were soon in for a huge shock.

The shoeboxes were bathed in direct sunlight, which made them hard to miss. As the teens got closer, they saw that the boxes were securely sealed, prompting them to want to investigate further. What they discovered inside was far from the realm of fashion.

Shocking discovery

Within the two boxes, they found four kittens struggling in deplorable conditions. They lacked the means to breathe, as the boxes had been cruelly sealed shut and left under the harsh sun. The teens quickly realised the situation's urgency and alerted a local animal welfare organisation.

The desperate abandoned kittens were discovered by "Une Patte Dans La Main," a French animal welfare association that immediately coordinated their rescue.

Rescue mission

The kittens, only about four weeks old, were emaciated and had dirt in their eyes. Fortunately, they were found and rescued in the nick of time. Under the loving care of their foster family, the kittens are expected to regain their strength and health, and soon, they will be ready to find loving forever homes.

No one knows who left the kittens in the shoeboxes or why. But without air holes, the kittens would have surely died. Fortunately, these compassionate teenagers' found them in time, and their quick response undoubtedly saved their lives.
