You know that when your cat purrs, it typically signifies contentment. Meanwhile, if they hiss, it clearly shows they are annoyed. However, there are a myriad of other vocalisations that cats can make, but what do they mean?

@alecanewman is a TikTok creator and cat owner that has devised a unique way to communicate with his feline friends. He's keen to share what he knows with other cat owners, leading him to create his very own cat language TikTok guide.

In one video, he tells viewers that "mah mah mah" in cat language means food. He suggests that if a cat makes a "mah mah mah" sound quickly, it's telling you that it wants food. He explains that he learned this from a Siamese cat 30 years before. He then demonstrates by making the sound to his cat, instantly catching their attention.

In another video, the man explains that "ma-ah" means "come here" to a cat. However, he says that while a dog will normally come when you call them, with a cat, you usually have to leave a message. He then proceeds to test it out on his cat. And while one of his felines ignores what he says, the second cat goes to him.

While some people said they were unsuccessful when they tried it with their cat, the man suggested it could be because of a local dialect variation. Others applauded the man for being fluent in cat, while another joked that cats will now have a crisis that their human can now talk cat.

Will you give it a try with your cat?
