Peter Davidson was enjoying an afternoon in the park with his son when a bald eagle swooped onto the field. Bruno, At the same time, Peter's neighbour's ginger cat, was also at the park.
As soon as the cat caught sight of the bird, he couldn't take his eyes off it.
Tense standoff
As Bruno approached the wild bird, Peter began filming the unlikely encounter.
The video shows Bruno, with his tail twitching and back arched, standing face to face with the large eagle. The bird stood its ground, puffing itself up and doing a couple of bluff charges toward the cat.
Truce
Fortunately, after a few tense minutes, the eagle flew off as Bruno chased after it, probably considering himself to be the victor. But this showdown could have ended very differently.
Watch what happened:
While the encounter between Bruno and the bald eagle only lasted a few minutes, and neither animal was harmed, it could have been very different. Bruno could have been severely injured or worse if the eagle had used its talons to protect itself or mistaken the cat for a rodent. Fortunately, eagles living near urban areas are pretty savvy regarding domesticated pets and usually steer clear of them. Phew!
