The internet is full of hilarious clips of cats leaping into the air at the sight of a cucumber. But bananas bring out a different reaction in some felines.

Fruit fight
While this seemingly harmless yellow fruit may look innocent to you and me, to some cats, it seems to bring out their anger.
The title of the video is “The bananas chose violence” but it’s clear to everyone that it’s the cat who starts the fight.
According to some posts, the cat in this clip is called Opal and has taken offence to bananas because she doesn’t like the sound of the blender. Presumably, her owner is fond of making the occasional banana smoothie, and Opal associates the yellow fruit with the loud noise the blender makes.

So when she gets up onto the kitchen worktop and spots a bunch of bananas, she has to give them a series of hearty slaps with her paw.

People couldn’t resist posting amusing comments after watching the video, with one person saying, “When bananas go out late at night and engage a cat in a fight”, while another commented, “I think we are missing context here, what did the bananas do before the recording started?”
Others just seemed relieved the cat was taking some action, “Bananas are so aggressive lately, I’m happy this cat is doing something”.
