The woman was at a daycare when, to everyone's alarm, she made a frantic call to the police reporting that she'd seen a wolf walking by the centre.
The woman pleaded with the police to come and do something about it, as she was too frightened to go out.
Wolf on the loose!
It's not a call that the police get every day, but fortunately, they took it seriously and raced to the day centre. They also alerted animal protection services in case something was wrong with the wolf, which is what had brought it out into the middle of a populated city.
Soon after the police arrived, they spotted the large grey animal. At first glance, it resembled a wolf.
But when the animal, in turn, spotted the police officers, it happily ran over to greet them while wagging its tail.
Once the animal was much closer, they realised exactly what it was.
True identity revealed
They phoned the station to ask their colleagues to check the registry of missing animals. Sure enough, just a few days earlier, a concerned owner had reported that their dog had gone missing, and the dog's description matched the dog the police were with.
The terrifying "wolf" that had frightened everyone was, in fact, a family pet.
But while the older woman may have got it wrong, it was revealed that the dog had some wolf and Malamute in its bloodline, which made it look a little more menacing than the average dog.
Once they'd confirmed the dog's ownership, the police returned it to its relieved owner.
