Beloved actress Dame Angela Lansbury passed in her sleep last night, just a few days short of her 97th birthday.

Hailed as one of the last surviving stars of Hollywood’s Golden Age,  Dame Angela Lansbury had a bright career in theatre and cinema.

A wide range of talents and interests

She was most well-known for her role as Jessica Fletcher in the television series Murder, She Wrote, which she played for 12 years.

But Angela Lansbury wasn’t just an incredible actress. She was also a humanitarian, supporting various charities throughout her life, whether they be raising awareness for Aids or for animal welfare.

Animal lover through and through

She was indeed an animal lover, often proclaiming that humans could learn a lot from dogs, including unconditional love and loyalty.

She hadn’t owned dogs for a number of years, thinking it was unfair to them that she worked and travelled so much. "I can’t bear to leave them. I refuse to have a dog now unless I can stay in one place to nurture it."

She is survived by three children and her brother, producer Edgar Lansbury, as well as several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Our thoughts are with them during this difficult time!
