When a huge, shaggy, blue-eyed stray turned up at a shelter in Mariupol, Ukraine, the staff knew it’d be tough to find him a loving home.
Desperate for a home
He was in awful condition, had numerous medical problems, was skinny and was suffering from mange. His time on the streets had clearly taken a toll.
Despite his endless list of problems, the pooch was incredibly friendly and had bags of love to give. Staff knew he needed a loving family for his remaining years - but with his ongoing problems, no one wanted to adopt him.
They decided to post on Facebook in a desperate plea to find the pup a home. Remarkably, within an hour, the post had already been shared 500 times. But just as hope of a forever home was building, something even better happened.
His fate took a dramatic turn
As the video spread across Facebook, staff received a shocking message.
A woman had seen the footage and believed the dog was hers. She’d had a puppy stolen from her farm several years back and has been looking for him ever since.
The woman visited the shelter and immediately recognised him and it's clear the once lonely dog remembers her, too. His body language immediately changed to sheer happiness and enthusiasm—he clearly knew he was finally safe.
