When it comes to naming dogs, there are hundreds of options out there. But is there such a thing as going a little too far?

A woman has recently taken to the social media platform reddit to ask users whether she made a poor choice when naming her dog.

The conversation comes after she was confronted by a couple at the park who thought her dog’s name was insensitive and downright rude.

A strange name

Indeed, the woman named her dog Covid! Her reasoning behind this is that she found the stray pup during the Coronavirus lockdown.

To her, it’s thanks to COVID that she and her dog met.

Insensitive to most

Despite the ‘cute’ story behind the name, she’s now yelling out "Covid!" every time she goes for a walk with her pup! And of course, some people find that quite alarming, or just inappropriate.

On reddit, people couldn’t help but agree with the criticisms. One user said:

"Would you name a dog Ebola, AIDS or cancer?"

Another added: "Despite your story, I still have no clue why you would name a pet after a virus that has killed thousands of people. Just give the dog a normal name so you don't have to worry about shouting Covid for the next 10 to 15 years or whatever."

What do you think of this unusual name choice?
