The most common type of cat throughout the world is without a doubt the domestic shorthair (also known as the moggy)! These are cats with a mix of multiple breeds in their genes - they all have varying coats and characteristics! The most common pedigree cat breeds include the Maine Coon, the Siamese, the Bengal, the Ragdoll, and the Russian Blue.
What is the most rare cat?
According to the UK's Governing Council of the Cat Fancy, the Sokoke Cat is the rarest domestic cat breed!
How many breeds of cats are there?
This depends on where you look! The International Cat Association recognises 73 breeds, the Cat Fanciers’ Association recognises 45, and the Fédération Internationale Féline recognises 48.
