Losing a pet is incredibly nerve-wracking for an owner. Christmas 2021 definitely wasn’t as joyous as usual in the Jacobs family after they lost Salty the dog.

On December 22nd, Salty the Setter ran away from her home in Montana, USA.

Owners worried sick when dog runs away

Her owner, Roger Jacobs, had raised her since she was a puppy, and was absolutely devastated.

Along with his daughter, he searched for his beloved companion day and night. But the colder it got and the more time passed, it seemed unlikely that they would find Salty.

Yet, on December 29th, a little over a week since she’d gone missing, the family got a phone call. A friend thought he’d spotted Salty across the Yellowstone River. The family immediately drove out to see if it was indeed their dog on the scene.

A touching reunion

And when they arrived, there was no doubt about it: They had found Salty! Becky Anderson, Roger’s daughter, managed to capture the reunion on film. Roger can be seen walking through a snowy field, calling to his best friend. As she gets closer, he removes his gloves and falls to his knees to grab and hold his beloved dog. The relief is palpable.

Despite a gash on her leg, snow stuck between her toes, and, of course, being a little hungry, Salty was healthy as can be.

We are so happy this story has a happy ending. Don’t you go running off again, Salty!
