While on a walk with her dog, a Reddit user by the name of u / AvocadoDemonde, allowed a random person to pet her dog. Sounds absolutely normal so far right? Well, apparently this person didn’t quite understand the reason why dog owners have their phone number engraved on their dog’s collar…
While it is recommended that you always keep your contact details up to date in case your pet is lost, some people think that the phone number engraved on your pet's collar is an open invitation to contact the owner!
Someone got the wrong message
u / AvocadoDemonde used her Reddit account to share one of her experiences while she was walking her dog. She decided to post a screenshot of this random person’s message:
"Hey, I got your number from your dog's collar." Thanks for letting me pet her. We should hangout. :) ”.
Then when the dog owner didn’t answer, the person asked again: "Hello ???” Before sending back an angry message: "Why do you even have your number on her collar if you don’t want people to text you? What the f***?" Such a tease “.
It seems that some people do not have the same definition of priorities. Putting your phone number on your dog’s collar is a way to be contacted if someone finds your animal if he’s lost, nothing more.
Reddit users are shocked
Other users on Reddit commented on the screenshot expressing their outrage: “I can't believe there are actually people with this mindset,” one person said.
"The insinuation that she's trying to turn people on with her number on the dog collar is just crazy," added another.
Another user indicated that leaving your contact details on your dog's collar could be potentially dangerous: "This is a serious matter. Some men memorize your address and phone number… If you have a bad feeling or if they stare at your dog's collar a little too long, you have to go. "
A sobering warning!
