Last month dog rescuers Marcela Goldberg and Azul Galindo received a call to retrieve a young dog that had been found chained to a bench in Coyoacán on the outskirts of Mexico City.
By the time the couple from rescue shelter Mascota Coyoacán reached the scene, a small crowd of onlookers had gathered. Some had even tried to tempt the dog to drink and eat, but to no avail.
As Goldberg and Galindo approached, the dog’s shackles went up and it became defensive. Clearly the poor animal was nervous and scared.
With some patient coaxing and the help of a trainer experienced in handling aggressive dogs, the puppy was eventually unchained.
Accompanying note
Beside the dog was a note, seemingly written by a child. The letter spoke of the reason for the dog’s abandonment.
The person who left the letter wrote, “Please, I ask you to adopt this dog and take good care of it.
“Leaving my dog here hurts a lot, but I made this decision because my family members mistreat him and I couldn't see him in this situation anymore.”
Things are looking up
The dog, called Max according to the letter, was taken into the care of Mascota Coyoacán. Despite the shelter’s attempts to find the owner of Max, no-one came forward to claim him.
Max - now called Boston - hopes to find a new (and far better) forever home soon!
