When Rudy Armstrong fell seriously ill, his quick-thinking Chihuahua, Bubu, knew just what to do.

Nearly two years ago, Rudy was enjoying a peaceful afternoon nap on his houseboat, with Bubu snoozing nearby.

It was one of those idyllic dog-day afternoons the pair often shared.

Bubu raises the alarm

But when Rudy awoke, he immediately sensed something was wrong. He couldn’t move his arm and quickly realised he was having a stroke. Unable to reach the phone, he turned to Bubu for help. “I need help,” he told her.

The loyal pup leapt into action, racing down to the marina where she found Kim, the dockmaster. Barking insistently, Bubu led Kim back to the houseboat. There, she found Rudy lying on the sofa and immediately called paramedics. Rudy was rushed to the hospital, where he received life-saving treatment.

Over the following weeks, Rudy began to recover. But he deeply missed his faithful companion. Wanting to lift his spirits, hospital manager Brandy Popp arranged a surprise visit.

“Rudy has no family nearby, so I organised a reunion between him and Bubu,” Brandy explained.

A heartwarming reunion

At first, Bubu appeared a little unsure. But the moment Rudy pulled down his face mask, recognition sparked. She leapt into his lap, showering him with kisses and cuddles.

“It was a beautiful moment,” said Brandy.

Rudy has since returned home and, of course, little Bubu is right there by his side once more.
