One weekend evening in Neufchâtel-en-Bray, northern France, the usual peace of the night was shattered by the sound of revving engines and screeching tyres, as reported by local newspaper Paris Normandie. Intrigued by the unusual racket, several residents quickly peered out of their windows to see what all the fuss was about.
At the centre of attention was a driver desperately trying to manoeuvre his car. It was later revealed that the man had a very specific reason for being out so late: he wanted to get home as quickly as possible to feed his loyal dog.
A chaotic manoeuvre under the watchful eyes of the neighbourhood
The scene, filmed by a witness who was puzzled by the commotion, took place in the town's central square. While trying to park a car he had borrowed from a friend, the driver misjudged his turn and crashed into a parked vehicle.
Undeterred, the man drove off to try and park a bit further away, eventually coming to a stop under an archway about 50 yards down the road. When the police arrived, called by concerned neighbours, reality caught up with the driver, uncovering a series of highly irresponsible decisions.
Love for a pet does not excuse reckless behaviour
While looking after the well-being of a four-legged companion is a priority for any loving owner, officers' checks revealed that the man was driving without a valid licence or insurance.
Although our passion for our little animals sometimes drives us to go to great lengths, this mishap is a gentle reminder to always plan ahead for our pets' needs, while keeping everyone safe on the road.
