Eight five-week-old puppies saved after being left caged in the pouring rain

By Elise Petter

A motorist driving to work in the pouring rain in Texas spotted an abandoned crate by the side of the road. Inside, eight tiny puppies were trapped.

A motorist was driving through the rain to work in Von Ormy, Texas, when he spotted an abandoned crate on the roadside. As a foster carer for the charity God's Dogs Rescue, the man pulled over immediately.

As he got closer, he discovered eight five-week-old puppies trapped inside. The little creatures were soaked to the skin, riddled with fleas and desperately in need of help.

A swift rescue operation

The driver contacted his colleagues at the rescue centre straight away. A network of dedicated volunteers quickly sprang into action to find the puppies a safe, warm home.

Rescuers bathed the puppies to rid their coats of fleas, before giving them vaccinations, worming treatments and iron supplements.

On the road to recovery

Thanks to this swift care, the puppies quickly regained their strength. A representative from the shelter told animal website The Dodo that the puppies were now doing wonderfully well, and were healthy and thriving.

The puppies will remain with their foster families until they are ready to be adopted into their forever homes. The charity has used this opportunity to remind pet owners of the vital importance of neutering, to prevent unplanned litters and stop animals being abandoned.
