He was a Dobermann, about a year old, and was severely malnourished.
They reported the dog to the rescuers at the Doberman Rescue League.
A critical condition
The dog was renamed Legend. The charity's rescuers put out a call for help, asking for donations and for their community to help search for the stray.
The community's response was incredible: several people drove for over an hour to join the search! When he was finally found, the poor dog was so thin he was barely recognisable.
His body was covered in skin patches of unknown origin. No owner came forward, and he had no microchip to identify him.
A long road to recovery
After his rescue, Legend was immediately rushed to a veterinary clinic for intensive care. The vets diagnosed him with severe anaemia. His vet bills were estimated to be between $3,000 and $4,000, but the charity was determined to do everything possible to give him a real chance at survival.
Despite his worrying physical condition, Legend remained a sweet and affectionate dog. He loves cuddles and is very sociable with other dogs, which deeply moved his rescuers.
While he recovers, the charity has already found him a foster home and is now looking for his forever family. We hope he finds them very soon.
