The two German Shepherds kept returning to the shed.
Something inside had captivated them, but Brett couldn't figure out what it was. Mya and Livia just kept sniffing and sniffing relentlessly.
An unexpected find
Suddenly, one of the dogs started digging under the shed door. She seemed very excited. Brett went closer and couldn't believe his eyes. A tiny grey creature appeared. It was a minuscule, abandoned kitten. The poor thing seemed to have a severe eye infection and couldn't open its eyes...
Brett carefully lifted the kitten out and moved it to a safe place. Then, he plucked up the courage to go inside the old garden shed. He hadn't opened it in years and felt very apprehensive. However, he knew he had to check what was inside. His search was not in vain: inside, behind a rusty old board, was another kitten, also with a severe eye infection.
A bright future
Brett and his girlfriend rushed to get both kittens to safety. They then contacted the Lucky Paws Rescue centre for help.
The rescuers confirmed that both kittens had eye infections, but thankfully they responded well to treatment. They are about three weeks old. Ten days after their rescue, the little kittens, now named BARNey and SHEDeur, are both doing much better. Thanks to the care of the rescuers and the keen noses of Mya and Livia, the two kittens have a bright future ahead of them!
