A schoolboy reads books at a shelter, and one dog has an incredible reaction

By Elodie Carpentier•

At a shelter in Florida, USA, a young schoolboy devotes his free time to reading stories to stressed-out animals.

How could anyone not fall in love with this heartwarming story? As reported by website The Dodo, Nehemiah Turner is a young volunteer schoolboy who regularly sits outside the pens to read books to anxious dogs and cats.

While all the shelter animals enjoy his visits, one of them is a particularly big fan of the young lad.

A very special bond

Nehemiah made friends with January, a two-year-old dog. January started frantically licking the protective glass, as if trying to shower the teenager with kisses.

True to his role and keen to keep the dog calm, Nehemiah stayed focused to carry on reading, struggling not to burst into a fit of laughter.

"Nehemiah desperately wanted to laugh!" his grandmother, Joanna McKenzie, told The Dodo. "He found it really funny because, although he'd had glass kisses in the past, it hadn't happened to him in a long time."

A quick adoption

As confirmed by the shelter team, the dog's adorable behaviour and the enthusiasm surrounding his personality allowed him to be adopted almost immediately after this sweet encounter.

For Nehemiah, who has already completed over 125 hours of volunteering and read stories to more than a hundred animals, January's departure remains a truly memorable moment.
