15-year-old Diesel the dog had been missing since Friday, 27th March.

His family was searching for him everywhere in their hometown of Norfolk, Florida, in the USA.

The pooch had vanished without a trace.

A door left open

His family discovered that the garage door had been accidentally left open. Diesel must have slipped out, but there had been no sight of him since. They immediately went to the Norfolk Animal Care Center to report him missing.

The following day, a member of the public heard distressed barking and reported it to the animal shelter. Officers rushed to the scene. When they arrived, they discovered a dog trapped in a storm drain.

A dramatic rescue

No one knows how Diesel ended up in the drain, but one thing was certain: he was completely unable to get out by himself. The officers managed to pull the dog free. They then posted photos of the pooch online before taking him back to the shelter.

The shelter staff recognised Diesel from the missing pet report his family had filed. A few hours and many tears of relief later, Diesel was finally reunited with his family. He is now back enjoying the peace and comfort of his loving home.
